Stage 1_Design and technology
development

March - August 2007

During this period ongoing information and materials sourcing, exchange of ideas and practical experiments were conducted. In August the first research trip to TITV Greiz - the Institute for Specialised Textiles and Flexible Materials in Germany took place. With the scientific and technical assistance from TITV Greiz the first electronic textile samples were developed.

Working out the first weave diagram for the e-textile. Industrial Jacquard loom using special software developed in house at TITV by Mr. Zschenderlein is being used: Zane, Jackson and the TITV team.

Soldering LEDs and transistors on the specially developed e-weave. Very first tests - the woven sensors are not functioning well. The weave structure is far from good: Zane, Jackson and the TITV team.

Further developments and testing of the weave structure

Optimisation of the e-weave system. Changes into the CAD Jacquard loom files, more weaving and more soldering and more testing. This will go on for ages...

The no. 17 weave structure sample which finally works to some extent - it responds to e-static charge. We have now worked out the approximate weave binding system but the weave structure is very complex - there are many variables which need to be considered in order to improve the system.
